School Choice/SES Information for 2009-2010

Schools who do not achieve AYP in the same subject area (math or reading) for two or more consecutive years enter Title I School Improvement.  The following schools are in Title I School Improvement. Students at these schools may elect to request a school transfer to a school not in the improvement process.

East End Elementary - Students may transfer to Jamesville Elem. or Rodgers Elem.

Edna Andrews Elementary - Students may transfer to Jamesville Elem. or Rodgers Elem.

EJ Hayes Elementary - Students may transfer to Jamesville Elem. or Rodgers Elem.

Williamston Primary - Students may transfer to Jamesville Elem. or Rodgers Elem.

Williamston Middle - Students may transfer to Roanoke Middle; Jamesville Elem. or Rodgers Elem (6th grade); or, Bear Grass High or Jamesville High (7-8th grades).

Roanoke Middle School has exited the Title I School Improvement Process. Congratulations to RMS!!

Students who elect to remain at East End Elementary or Williamston Middle may be eligible for Supplemental Educational Services(SES).  For questions about school choice and/or SES, please contact the school principal.

School Choice History

In 2007-2008, students in the following schools were eligible to transfer:  East End Elementary, Williamston Middle School, Roanoke Middle School.  Of those eligible students in those schools, approximately 11 students transferred to choice school options.

In 2008-2009, students in the following schools were eligible to transfer:  East End Elementary, Edna Andrews Elementary, EJ Hayes Elementary, Williamston Primary, Williamston Middle School, and Roanoke Middle School.  Of those eligible students, approximately 15 students transferred to choice schools.  Additionally, 115 students at East End and Williamston Middle School elected to remain at their schools and participate in Supplemental Educational Services.

For the current 2009-2010 school year, approximately 45 students have chosen to transfer schools based on NCLB. 

Supplemental Educational Services (SES)

Students at East End Elementary School and Williamston Middle School may be eligible to receive free tutoring.  The tutoring is provided by companies and organizations approved by the NC Department of Public Instruction.  Some providers conduct tutoring at the school sites while others conduct tutoring off-site or via the internet.  Students who receive free or reduced lunches are eligible to participate in SES.  Families were notified by mail and schools have conducted provider fairs to enable parents to meet providers and get additional information.  Below are lists of all providers eligible to serve Martin County students and those providers who agreed to serve Martin County students.

Williamston Middle SES will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-4:30 pm.

East End Elementary SES will be held Monday-Thursday from 3-4:30 pm.

In 2008-2009, East End served 58 students out of about 312 eligible students.  Williamston Middle School served about 60 students out of 239 eligible students.

In 2009-2010, East End has 273 eligible students and Williamston Middle School has 206 eligible students.  The number of participants is not yet known.

(In 2007-2008, no Martin County schools offered SES.)
